Privacy Policy

Introduction

DuskPane is a macOS utility developed by Misek AB, a Swedish software company. This policy describes how DuskPane handles your data.

Data Collection

The DuskPane app does not use analytics, telemetry, or usage tracking. The direct-download app sends your license key and the name of your Mac to Lemon Squeezy when you activate it. On the first launch after the refund window closes, it sends the key for one automatic license check. When an activation is released, it sends the key and its Lemon Squeezy activation identifier. It also connects for software updates, as described below. DuskPane never captures or transmits screen content.

Software Updates

DuskPane checks for updates once a day by fetching a version feed from dl.duskpane.com, and downloads updates from the same domain when you choose to install them. Like any web request, these connections necessarily expose standard connection metadata (your IP address and HTTP headers) to our content delivery network (Cloudflare). DuskPane sends no system profile, device identifier, or usage information with these requests, and we do not log or analyze them.

Automatic checking can be turned off at any time in DuskPane's Settings ("Automatically Check for Updates"); you can still check manually whenever you like.

System Permissions

Manually placed solid and frosted covers need no macOS system permission. DuskPane uses two permissions only for window-aware features:

Accessibility API — Required for Focus Mode and Window Attachment. This permission lets DuskPane identify the focused window and read window positions so a cover can follow an application window. The metadata is used locally and in real time only; nothing is recorded or transmitted.

Screen Recording — Used by Window Attachment for reliable window stacking order. DuskPane reads WindowServer metadata for this feature, not the pixels inside your screen. Focus Mode does not use Screen Recording in the current release. No screen content is captured, recorded, or transmitted.

Third-Party Services

DuskPane uses Lemon Squeezy to process direct purchases, deliver license keys, and manage direct-purchase licenses. The app contacts Lemon Squeezy when you activate or deactivate a Mac. It also attempts one license check on the first launch after the refund window closes. If that check cannot be completed, DuskPane keeps working; it does not perform ongoing license checks. Lemon Squeezy receives the license information described above and standard connection metadata, including your IP address and HTTP headers. Cookies and Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand aggregate website traffic and performance. It does not use cookies, local storage, or fingerprinting, and we do not use it to follow individual visitors or connect website activity to purchases.

Children's Privacy

DuskPane is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at duskpane.com/privacy/ with a new effective date.
